Ben Grove, photos by Stephen Kingy
What can you say about Grove? Well, with a puddle of spit by his side and through a cloud of smoke, he’s become quite a face within British skateboarding in a relatively short time – especially if you consider the fact that he is still a young chap – a young chap with a sizable library of recorded skateboarding. He has indeed made his presence felt, may it be a jam, a competition or in photos and video sections, because no matter if it’s a Blueprint production or a Manchester scene video or indeed the long awaited new Unabomber offering – Ben always gives it up full-pelt.
Backside 360. Wirral
Well, for starters, I’ve been wanting to learn this trick for f—king ages and thanks to Mr Stephens, I have. Watching Frank do this trick helped a lot because everybody knows he's done a fair amount of spins in his time. Thanks Frank. So me and Kingy went to this spot somewhere in Liverpool and he said to me, “I want to see someone do a spin out of it.” So I took up the challenge. The weather was shit so time was against us, but we managed to lay it down – buzzin!
Ollie, Ryan Giggs's pool house?
Somewhere secret in the posh part of Manchester
Nosegrind. Liverpool
I can't really remember much from this spot apart from some knobhead walking past going on about how he was a tax payer and it was illegal to skate in Liverpool. Me and Kingy were like, “do one mate!” and he said “I’m going to report you!” we turned on him saying “Go on then dickhead do it, and do one!”
Ollie. Liverpool
A stinking run-up and a stinking run-out, same spot as the others. Not much to say about it really, I had one go – landed on it, fell off, got back up and did it! That was that.
360 flip. Liverpool
This is the same spot as the nosegrind and the ollie, what a spot…
Well basically, I’ve never had a photo of a tre-flip, so I’m well stoked!
