Daniel A.I.U. Higgs – Atomic Yggdrasil Tarot
Revered firstly as the singer of Lungfish and then as a tattooist and illustrator, Daniel Higgs has, and conceivably always will be a man on which the word ‘unique’ should be permanently etched. Inspiring, meditative and confusing, often in equal measure, Higgs returns to music with this his second solo album, lovingly enveloped inside a book of illustration. Easy on the vocals, there aren’t any, and heavy on the Jew’s harp and abrasive, eastern-influenced strings, though this isn’t in any way shape or form easy listening the six rambling compositions Higgs has somehow put together are strangely soothing. Odd and unnerving, but ultimately thought provoking, just like its creator, get this if quiet contemplation is your thing.
